Realising the potential of young New Zealanders as designers, dreamers, creators and workers for a better future is at the heart of The King’s Trust Aotearoa New Zealand.
Founded by His Majesty the King in 1976, The King’s Trust (formally The Prince’s Trust) helps young people across the globe respond to the rapidly changing global economy, so they can thrive in the world. Locally, the Trust offers two programmes specifically designed to reflect our economic, social and cultural context, while equipping young people with an entrepreneurial mindset – an Introduction to Enterprise Programme, and the Enterprise Programme. More than 400 young people were part of the programmes in 2023, with numbers set to rise this year.
Funding from Clare is set to enable Māori and Pasifika rangatahi (with a focus on wāhine) to co-create and deliver programme elements that foster a sense of pride and a deeper cultural focus. Clare Chief Executive Alice Montague supports the opportunity to boost the Trust’s work in a way that will have tangible long-term benefits.
“Developing the confidence and skills to live, learn, earn and create a better future is something all young people deserve, so the work of The King’s Trust to bring this into reach for many in New Zealanders who would have otherwise missed out, is truly valuable for all of us.”
